Welded diff :)
Not sure how its gonna go but hopefully it's a cheap way to get more grip
I think it'll be a bit of a handful on the road
But hopefully faster on the track

Re: Welded diff :)
i've got a spare diff i was going to get welded, but thought about splashing out for a Quaife to be on the safe side. Very interested to hear how you get on as i might go back to the welded idea if you don't have any low-speed troubles with it

Re: Welded diff :)
thank you sir. My finances won't stretch to a Quaife either yet, but as i haven't got the know-how to change the gearbox myself i can't stretch to taking the welded diff back out if it is a bitch to life with lolRob wrote:My finances won't stretch to a quaife so I'm gonna have a go

Re: Welded diff :)
bit of a hijack, but i'm guessing your pretty got with Volvo gearboxes then
i've got 2 x M56 gearboxes, i need the internals taking out of one & putting into the casing of the other. Is that something you can do? (& possibly fit a welded diff at the same time lol)

Yeah that's no problem
If you want to get them to me I can do it
What's the reason for the changed of internals?

i'll have to come down, i owe it to Stevie to visit anywayRob wrote:Yeah that's no problem

hmm, i'm being dodgy. I want the ratios of a 850TDi (M56LK), but as they used an Audi engine the bell-housing is different so it needs to go into a M56H case. I pick up the M56LK tomorrow, & already got a spare M56H (& diff for you to weld ) lol

Re: Welded diff :)
well i've got the gearbox, bloke says it was out of a V70. I couldn't find the id sticker to confirm the final drive ratio, but it's defo off an Audi engined Volvo & "think" they only did the 2.5 diesel so should be the right oneCONRODS!! wrote:No worries fella me and rob love playing with them we know enough and I can do clutchs in 5 hours now lol and hurry up and get down here lol

Re: Welded diff :)
got to come & creep round Rob to swop the TDi cogs into the M56 casing (& weld up my diff), then yes its a swop over onto BT (as well as fit my lightweight flywheel & 850R clutch). I was only messing, i'll get her on the road then bring her down to you's for the gearbox. I'd cry having to pay the prices it costs you gas-guzzlers lolCONRODS!! wrote:Sweet so all u got to do is just get the one out of bt and your there nearly duane if u pay for the fuel I will greatly do that for u mate not a problem at all

Re: Welded diff :)
Well
Last night I decided to go for it
It's a little difficult to park and out of turnings
But on the road it's brilliant
It doesn't push on at all
I'm really pleased
I hope it's dry at lydden on the 13th so I can see how much it improves my lap times

Hardly any wheel spin at all now
And on cheap road tyres too
Can't wait to see what it's like on the 888s

Re: Welded diff :)
i'd worry about the driveshafts snapping on sticky tyres. So you reckon i should get mine welded instead of splashing out for a Quaife? (ps i've got no powersteering lol)Rob wrote:Hardly any wheel spin at all now

Re: Welded diff :)
I can't see me breaking a driveshaft
Apparently they're pretty strong
How soon are you planning to do it?
I'd like to see how I get on at lydden before I suggest welding it
